history

During the Christmas season of 1986, Rev. James and Priscilla Myers moved with their two children, Jennifer and Jameson, to Greenwood to start what is now called Calvary Temple. Rev. Myers and family founded Calvary Temple on January 30, 1986 as an outreach mission of Northside United Pentecostal Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas. In December of 1987, Calvary Temple United Pentecostal Church became its own official church entity. The church started with those four in the Myers home and has grown over 30 years to a church facility of 19,000 sq. ft. sitting on a beautiful campus spanning 9.2 acres east of the city.

After serving Calvary Temple for 30 years, Rev. Myers felt that it was time for a transition in leadership. Through much fasting and prayer Rev. Myers felt that he had found the next pastor God called to Calvary Temple. Near the end of 2016, Calvary Temple voted and elected Rev. Trent Hampton to serve as pastor starting February 1, 2017.

Pastor Trent, his wife Bethany and two children, Elijah and Everleigh moved to Greenwood eager to minister to the people of Calvary Temple and the surrounding communities. Although Calvary Temple is an established church with a 30-year history, we know that the best years are not behind, but ahead. God is not finished changing lives and offering hope through Calvary Temple.
